What Is School Direct (Tuition Fee)

School Direct (Tuition Fee) is a school-led, one-year initial teacher training programme that equips our trainees with 1) a wealth of classroom experience, 2) a full PGCE, and 3) QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). This programme is run by our experienced team of educators, whilst also benefiting from the academic rigour and expertise of the staff at our partner universities.

You will work closely with an experienced mentor and will undertake two school placements in contrasting settings. Whilst you are a part of the team from day one, you are not expected to teach classes independently until you and your school feel you are ready.

Places are self-funded; you may be eligible for a student loan and for a tax-free bursary of up to £30,000.

Why Train With Us

TESLA Teaching School Alliance offers teacher training through the School Direct programme, in partnership with leading universities and Bohunt Education Trust (TES Overall School of the Year 2015 & Outstanding School, OFSTED).

We have an outstanding track record in teacher training and recruitment, as recognised by Hampshire County NQT Inspectors and HEI External Moderators. In the last three years we have trained over one hundred trainee teachers, 98% of whom have gained QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

We offer 120 places across a large partnership of schools for 2017 – 18. Unlike many teaching school alliances, with TESLA you state on application which of our partner schools you most want to train in, allowing you the maximum choice over your training placements. We can draw on our experienced and dedicated staff to guide, support and help develop your professional practice.

What We Are Looking For

TESLA Teaching School Alliance is looking to recruit high quality graduates who are confident, reliable, resourceful, calm under pressure and tenacious. We are looking for candidates who are committed to developing themselves as outstanding teachers, and having the highest standards of themselves and their students. Above all, we want to recruit those who have a ‘can do’ attitude and desire to help our learners succeed. The ideal candidate will be a team player, with great presentation and communication skills.
