Through the support of Department for Education funding and working with Early Years settings and schools within the alliance, we have looked at the concept of being ‘School Ready’ and how this can support a smooth transition from pre-school to school. As a result we have produced a School Readiness Statement and developed an Early Years Transition Toolkit,

We will continue to engage with these pre-schools and schools as we move forward and will support them through the development of Early Years CPD and the Early Years forum.

Grateful thanks to the following who have contributed to the production of the toolkit: Annie Beadle (Early Days Nursery, Easebourne), Veronica Carter (Camelsdale Primary School), Jess Channon (Midhurst C of E Primary School), Hannah Dinnis-Searle (Stedham Primary School), Sally Doyle (Hollycombe Primary School), Sharon Hill (Little Oaks Pre-School, Northchapel), Esther Jewitt (Rake C.E. Primary School), Sarah Marston (Milland Valley Nursery School), Hayley Rhoades (Summerlea Primary School), Ros Stamper (Harting C.E. Primary School), Sarah Jane Wethered (Graffham Nursery), Lucy Whiffin (Graffham Infant School).

The Toolkit aims to enable pre-schools and schools to plan their programme of transition from one environment to another and ultimately deliver quality improvement in early years provision.

It consists of 60 cards offering suggestions of events, activities, documents and ideas for sharing expertise that would support transition from pre-school to school. Each card is colour co-ordinated with a suggested transition action and illustration. At the bottom of each one is an outline of the intended beneficiaries of the action; Children, Parents/Carers, Pre-School Staff or Teaching Staff.

The Toolkit is accompanied by a USB stick containing examples of some the tools mentioned on the cards and a range of other supporting documents. Please contact us for further information.

The Toolkit is being distributed free of charge to those pre-schools and schools within our alliance who have already engaged with the project across the five local hubs; Midhurst, Haslemere, Liphook, Petworth and Rustington on the South Coast.
